Veterinary Surgeon

Matthew- BVMedSci, BVM, BVS, MRCVS

Matthew graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2025 and has quickly developed a broad range of clinical skills across first opinion, emergency, referral, mixed and wildlife practice. Passionate about delivering high-quality patient care, he enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine but has a particular interest in surgery, emergency and critical care, and exotic species.
During his training, Matthew completed placements in a variety of practices throughout the UK, gaining hands-on experience in routine and advanced surgery, independent consultations, emergency medicine and preventative healthcare.

His time in referral and out-of-hours hospitals strengthened his confidence in managing emergency cases, performing CPR, triaging critically ill patients, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and supporting clients through difficult decisions with empathy and professionalism. Matthew has also developed experience in wildlife and exotic animal medicine, working with birds, reptiles, amphibians and native wildlife. He has undertaken wildlife triage, wound management and surgery, alongside gaining valuable experience in exotic consultations and husbandry advice. His placements in mixed practice also provided exposure to farm animal work, including calving, lambing and livestock care.

With a keen enthusiasm for surgery, Matthew has worked alongside experienced surgeons to refine his surgical techniques and enjoys performing routine soft tissue procedures while continuing to build his skills in more advanced operations. Outside of work, Matthew is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, camping and skiing. He qualified as a Level 1 Ski Instructor in Canada and is a keen football supporter, spending much of his free time exploring the outdoors or attending matches.

Matthew is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based veterinary care and looks forward to building lasting relationships with both clients and their pets.

REGISTERED VETERINARY NURSE

Emily-RVN

I joined the team as a student at the beginning of my training in 2016. In July 2019 I graduated with a Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing from The Royal Veterinary College and I am thrilled to finally be a qualified RVN!

I have a cat called Minnie, who I adopted at the end of a week’s work experience. She can be quite mischievous and enjoys sleeping all day. In my spare time I enjoy reading and baking.

REGISTERED VETERINARY NURSE

Courtney-RVN

I joined Barton Veterinary Centre in July 2019, starting my Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in September. I’m extremely excited to get started as I love animals and cant wait to work with them everyday, helping them in some way and to also have a more hands on job after being an Admin Assistant in my previous job.
I currently don’t have any pets but I’m sure my constant nagging for one will crack my boyfriend soon and when I finally get one it’ll be the most spoilt doggie ever! Until then all my love will be going to those that come to Barton Veterinary Centre.
